Wipe Out Stress With Stress Management
58Identifying the causes leads to healthier living
What stresses you out? Is it the pressure to fit forty hours of work into a twenty four hour day? Money concerns? Family bickering? As it turns out, there are an awful lot of problems in daily life that lead to stress. No matter what it is, there are certain stress management techniques that you can practice to alleviate the mental and physical toll that such situations create.
First of all, you may have wondered why some people stress out over certain situations while other people simply sail right through them. Some people thrive while others crumble under pressure. When you learn stress management, you will begin to understand that whatever causes panic lies within, not without. That is, stress levels are not caused by external forces; rather, it is the mind's interpretation of events that trigger stress.
[Note: That's not to say events are not stressful, they can be... but its our internalization of those events that makes or breaks us. Read on...]
To get a handle on your problems, stress management must be a solely individualized plan. Just as each person is unique, so too are the stressors pressurizing individuals. By changing your perceptions, you can alleviate or even eradicate stress from your life. Simple strategies for stress management will help you cope. It really does boil down to being completely aware of yourself and your brain's typical responses, and then altering the thought processes that lead to stress.
It is interesting to note that while psychological stress occurs in the mind, it can and quite often does manifest itself with physical symptoms. Beyond the obvious symptom of increased blood pressure, there can be headaches, increased occurrence of illnesses, and even strokes (to name just a few). Fatigue is pretty common, which only exacerbates the situation. Obviously, getting a handle on handling your stress is necessary for not only mental health, but physical health, as well.
There are different methods of stress management that seem to work well for different people. Exercise, in particular, is an effective stress management tool. It appears that working out not only promotes physical health and well being, but is beneficial to mental health, too. Another stress management technique used by the stressed among us is meditation. Clearing the mind and relaxing the body aids stress management by allowing you to think and act more calmly and with more focus. Two other stress management variations include managing your time more effectively and using psychological therapy.
All in all, stress management is not to be treated frivolously; stress is real, a fact of life for many millions of people. Through recognition of stressors in your life and careful practice of one or more stress management techniques, you can alleviate or eliminate your stress and enjoy improved mental and physical health. No matter what events are triggering your mind to react with stressed out signals, you can ultimately identify and deal with those stressors. Stress management strategies like regular exercise, counseling/therapy, meditation, etc., will allow you to take control of the situations, gain greater perspective, feel better, and be healthier.
